Cuscuta umbellata Kunth var. umbellata . Subgenus: Grammica. Common name: Flat-globe Dodder. Phenology: Apr-Dec. Habitat: Beach dunes and coastal strands, especially on herbaceous hosts. Known hosts include Acleisanthes, Allionia, Alternanthera, Amaranthus, Atriplex, Boerhavia, Gilia, Iresine, Kallstroemia, Salsola, Sesuvium, Suaeda, Tidestromia, Trianthema, and Tribulus (Costea & Nesom (2023). Distribution: Peninsular FL; West Indies; KS and CO south through sw. LA, TX, NM, AZ, and Mexico; South America.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: A second variety, var. desertorum Engelmann, is known only from South America (Costea & Nesom 2023).
