Cyperus fuligineus Chapman. Common name: Limestone Flatsedge. Phenology: Mar-Aug. Habitat: Pine rocklands, coastal rock barrens, edges of tidal marshes on limestone. Distribution: Florida Keys; West Indies.
ID notes: The glaucous culms and reddish spikelets easily separate this species at a glance from C. lupulinus and C. filiculmis, which also have larger achenes; C. ligularis and C. planifolius also have glaucous culms and reddish spikelets, but both are much more robust plants with numerous, well-developed, pedunculate spikes.
