Intro: Prostrate, mat-forming perennial of dry forests and woodlands.
Stems: Stems trailing across the ground, densely furry.
Leaves: Leaves alternate and lying flat on ground; on petioles with oval stipules at their base; divided into 3 round leaflets with hair on both surfaces, the terminal leaflet to about 2 in. long.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flowers in branching, usually axillary racemes; dark pink to purplish; less than 1/2 in. long; bilaterally symmetric and with typical pea-flower shape, the banner petal with maroon markings at the base.
Fruits: Fruit a flattened pod divided into 3-6 nearly diamond-shaped segments and covered with hooked hairs that stick to clothing and fur.
