*Desmodium tortuosum (Swartz) A.P. de Candolle. Phenology: Jul-Aug; Aug-Oct. Habitat: Fields, woodland borders, disturbed areas. Distribution: E. NC south to s. FL, west to AR and TX; Mexico, Central America, n. South America, West Indies; apparently only introduced in the southeastern United States (Harper 1944b).

Origin/Endemic status: Neotropics

Synonymy : = Ar, Fl3, FNA11.1, K4, Mex, NS, POWO, RAB, SE3, Tx, WH3, Isely (1998); = Meibomia purpurea (Mill.) Vail — S, S13; = Meibomia tortuosa (Sw.) Kuntze; Hedysarum tortuosum Swartz. Basionym: Hedysarum tortuosum Sw. 1788
