Dichanthelium sphaerocarpon (Elliott) Gould. Round-fruited Witchgrass. Phen: May-Oct. Hab: Moist or dry thin woods, meadows, and ditches, often in dry sandy soil. Dist: MA, VT, OH, and KA south to FL and TX; Mexico.
ID notes: Nodes are infrequently bearded, but internodes remain glabrous.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: Dichanthelium inflatum probably warrants taxonomic recognition at variety rank, as was often done in the past in Panicum (see synonymy); the appropriate combination has not been made in Dichanthelium.
