Diodia virginiana Linnaeus. Common name: Large Buttonweed. Phenology: Jun-Dec. Habitat: Ditches, wet fields, wet swales along highways, other moist to wet habitats. Distribution: CT, PA, IL, and KS south to FL and TX; West Indies; Mexico (YUC) and Central America.
ID notes: The leaves frequently turn bright yellow, caused by a viral infection.

Intro: Prostrate annual/perennial of ditches, wet fields and other moist to wet habitats.
Stems: Stems 4-sided, sprawling, branching from root crown, hairy at least on angles.
Leaves: Leaves opposite, sessile with linear stipules at the base, lance-shaped to narrowly oval, to 2 1/2 in. long, entire.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flowers solitary in leaf axils, white (occasionally pink), about 1/4 in. long, funnel-shaped, with 4 spreading, pointed corolla lobes that are densely hairy inside.
Fruits: Fruit a green, 8-ribbed, ellipsoid drupe with persistent calyx lobes.
