Goodyera pubescens (Willdenow) R. Brown. Common name: Downy Rattlesnake-orchid. Phenology: Jun-Aug. Habitat: Dry to moist forests and woodlands. Distribution: NB west to ON and MN, south to Panhandle FL, MS, and AR.

Other Comments: One of the commonest of orchids in much of its extensive range in eastern North America.

Horticultural Information
Intro: Erect, rhizomatous perennial of dry to moist forests and woodlands.
Stems: Stem an unbranched, glandular-hairy flowering scape with a few bracts.
Leaves: Leaves 3-8 in a basal rosette, petiolate, oval to elliptic, to 2 1/2 in. long, bluish-green with prominent white mid-vein and white side veins, evergreen, smooth.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flowers in a narrow, dense terminal spike covered with glandular hairs (flowers on all sides of spike); white; about 1/4 in. long; hairy; with 2 petals and 1 sepal forming a hood over a lower, sac-like lip-petal and 2 flanking, tiny sepals.
Fruits: Fruit a round to ellipsoid capsule.
