Intro: Erect perennial with a somewhat woody base, found in wet to dry fields, woodlands, woodland borders and openings.

Stems: Stems branched above, reddish and smooth but covered with tiny, black dots.

Leaves: Leaves opposite, sessile with clasping bases, oval or oblong, 1 1/2-2 1/2 in. long, blunt tipped, with conspicuous black dots.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers at the ends of multiple short, ascending branches at top of plant; bright yellow; 3/8-5/8 in. wide; consisting of 5 petals that are conspicuously streaked and spotted with black, 5 shorter sepals, and an erect cluster of bushy stamens and styles in the center.

Fruits: Fruit a reddish, erect, oval capsule with 3 persistent styles.

Comments:
