not marked as a favorite taxon Juncus elliottii Chapman. Common name: Elliott's Rush. Phenology: May-Sep. Habitat: Margins of ponds and lakes, depressions in savannas and flatwoods, wet, disturbed clearings, roadside ditches. Distribution: Coastal Plain, DE and e. Glossary (beta!)

Subgenus: Juncus. Section: Ozophyllum.

ID notes: This species is distinguished by its smaller and darker capsules than any other species in section Ozophyllum. The roots may or may not contain larger tuberous growths. Capsules of J. elliottii are similar in shape to J. acuminatus, but the presence of tubiferous roots, shorter perianth (2.0-2.5 mm long vs. 2.5-3.5 mm) and fewer-flowered glomerules (3-8 flowered vs. 5-many flowered) clearly distinguishes J. elliottii from J. acuminatus.

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
