not marked as a favorite taxon Juncus megacephalus M.A. Curtis. Common name: Large-headed Rush. Phenology: Jun-Aug. Habitat: Brackish and freshwater marshes, bogs, wet prairies, interdune swales, ditches, wet, open places. Distribution: Coastal Plain, e. MD (Knapp et al. 2011) and VA to s. FL, west to se. TX.

Glossary (beta!)

Subgenus: Juncus. Section: Ozophyllum.

ID notes: Much like J. scirpoides but easily distinguished by the uppermost leaf of the stem being poorly developed and usually shorter than the sheath. The heads are notably reddish in color vs. other members of section Ozophyllum.
