not marked as a favorite taxon Magnolia pyramidata Bartram. Common name: Pyramid Magnolia. Phenology: Apr-May; Aug. Habitat: Mesic hammocks, mesic forests, especially of bluffs and ravines. Distribution: A Southeastern Coastal Plain endemic: c. SC south to Panhandle FL, west to e. TX.

Taxonomy Comments: Sometimes treated as a variety or subspecies of M. fraseri, to which it is clearly closely related, but the distributional and morphological differences are discrete and specific status seems warranted.
