*Mitracarpus hirtus (Linnaeus) A.P. de Candolle. Common name: Girdle-pod. Habitat: Disturbed areas, roadsides. Distribution: Native of tropical America. Reported for GA Coastal Plain (Charlton County) (Carter, Baker, & Morris 2009) and SC Coastal Plain (Jasper County) (Bradley et al. [in prep.]).

Origin/Endemic status: Neotropics

Synonymy : = Fl5, K4, Meso4.2, WH3, Rogers (2005); = Mitracarpus hirtum DC. — Tx, orthographic variant; ? Mitracarpus villosus (Sw.) Cham. & Schltdl. ex DC.; Spermacoce hirta Linnaeus. Basionym: Spermacoce hirta L. 1762
