Nothoscordum bivalve (Linnaeus) Britton. Common name: Grace Garlic, False Garlic, Crow Poison. Phenology: Mid Mar-mid May, and again in Sep-Dec; May-Jun, and again in Oct-Jan. Habitat: Around granite flatrocks, in glades and barrens of various kinds, in open woodlands, prairies, and also weedy in fields and along roadsides. Distribution: Se. VA west to s. OH and KS, south to c. peninsular FL, TX, and Mexico; South America.
ID notes: An onion-like plant in general appearance (with a membrane-coated, onion-like bulb), but lacking the odor of onion.

Intro: Erect perennial from a bulb and rosette, found around granite flatrocks, in glades and barrens of various kinds, in open woodlands, and also weedy in fields and along roadsides.
Stems: Stem a slender, smooth, hollow flowering scape.
Leaves: Leaves 2-5 in a small basal rosette, linear, 4-12 in. long, smooth.

Flowers: Flowers 4-8 in a simple terminal umbel; white; 1/2-1 in. wide; consisting of 6 tepals with greenish-yellow base on the inside and greenish-brown vein on the outside, 6 stamens, and a greenish-yellow ovary with single style.
Fruits: Fruit a round to oval, 3-lobed capsule.
Comments: An onion-like plant, but generally lacking the odor of onion.
Height: 4-16 in.
