Intro: Erect, sometimes colonial perennial of wet pine flatwoods.

Stems: Stems usually in clumps of several, or in larger colonies; unbranched and very hairy.

Leaves: Leaves alternate, sessile or short-petiolate, oval to elliptic, to 4 1/2 in. long, conspicuously veiny, with a few widely spaced teeth and very hairy.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Composite flowers (heads) in somewhat flat-topped, branched, terminal clusters; heads about 1 1/2 in. wide and consisting of 5-20 narrow, white ray florets encircling a center disk of small, yellow (aging to red) tubular flowers.
