Parthenocissus quinquefolia (Linnaeus) Planchon. Common name: Virginia-creeper, Woodbine, Five-finger. Phenology: May-Jul (-Aug); Jul-Aug (-Sep). Habitat: Swamp forests, bottomlands, maritime forests and thickets, rock outcrops, mesic forests. Distribution: Maine west to Iowa and Nebraska, south to s. Florida and Texas; West Indies (Bahamas, Cuba); Mexico and Central America (El Salvador, Guatemala).

ID notes: Large vines have coarsely checked, thick, blackish bark.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Other Comments: The species is often used as an ornamental on trelisses and walls in Europe and w. North America.
