Habitat: Wet savannas, blackwater river floodplains, ditches; sometimes considered only introduced in southeastern North America, but probably native. Distribution: E. SC south to FL, west to LA; Mexico (CHP, VER) and Central America south to n. South America; Brazil; se. Africa. Reported for Mobile County, AL (Barger et al. 2023).
