Pityopsis falcata (Pursh) Nuttall. Common name: New England Goldenaster. Phenology: Jul-Sep. Habitat: Stable dunes (NJ), farther north in sandplain grasslands, coastal heathlands, and pitch pine-scrub oak barrens. Distribution: Se. MA south through RI, CT, and NY (Long Island) to s. NJ. A report for Pinellas County in wc. peninsular FL (Wunderlin & Hansen 2011) is a misidentification, probably of a stunted P. tracyi.
