Prosthechea cochleata (Linnaeus) W.E. Higgins var. triandra (Ames) W.E. Higgins. clade: clade H. Common name: Florida Clamshell Orchid. Phenology: (Jul-) Sep-May (-Jun). Habitat: Epiphytic on trees in swamps, tropical hammocks, and mangroves. Distribution: Endemic to FL. Var. cochleata is more widespread, occurring in the West Indies, Mexico, Central America, and n. South America.

Other Comments: Diaspis boisduvalii (a widespread tropical scale), can affect plants of this species (and other Orchidaceae and Arecaceae) in s. FL (Ray et al. 2012).
