Stems: Stems unbranched, woolly-hairy (may become smooth at base).
Leaves: Leaves alternate, sessile, linear-oblong, 1-4 in. long, wavy-margined, woolly and white beneath, smooth and green (or slightly hairy) above, fragrant; first-year rosette leaves spatula-shaped.

Flowers: Compound flowers (heads) in clumps of 1-5 in branching, terminal cluster; heads about 1/4 in. wide and pointed or flat-topped, consisting of white (or yellow-tinged), tubular disk florets (no ray florets) tightly enclosed by several series of brownish-white, papery and woolly bracts.
