not marked as a favorite taxon Quercus austrina Small. Common name: Bluff Oak. Phenology: Apr; Oct (of the same year). Habitat: River bluffs, mesic hammocks, dry hammocks, natural levees of brownwater rivers, over mafic rocks, on shell or calcareous sediments. Distribution: Essentially a Southeastern Coastal Plain endemic: e. South Carolina south to n. Florida and west to Mississippi. Previous reports from North Carolina are based on misidentifications of Q. lyrata, and previous reports from sw. Arkansas are based on misidentifications of Q. durandii (R. Lance, pers.comm. 2024).
