Horticultural Information

Intro: Erect, rhizomatous perennial of pastures, fields, roadsides and disturbed areas. Native of Europe.

Stems: Stems hollow, with forking branches, hairy.

Leaves: Leaves mostly basal and low on the stem, alternate, petiolate, 3/4-2 in. long, deeply divided into 3-5 palmate lobes, which are further divided into smaller, narrow segments with sharp tips; upper leaves smaller and less divided.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers on branching stalks at top of plant, bright yellow; 3/4-1 1/4 in. wide; consisting of 5 spreading, shiny, oval to round petals, 5 light green, spreading sepals and a ring of yellow stamens surrounding a central cluster of light green pistils.

Fruits: Fruit a dense, round cluster of beaked achenes.
