Rhynchospora ciliaris (Michaux) C. Mohr. Common name: Fringed Beaksedge. Phenology: Jul-Sep. Habitat: Pine savannas, longleaf pine sandhill seeps. Distribution: Se. NC south to s. FL and west to e. LA.
ID notes: The richly colored heads (cinnamon or chestnut) and broad leaves that are fringed with fine hairs are sure clues, in combination. The lower leaves form a ground-hugging rosette.
