Rhynchospora pleiantha (Kükenthal) Gale. Common name: Coastal Beaksedge. Phenology: Jul-Sep. Habitat: Sandy margins of limesink depression ponds (dolines), typically in shallow water or at the lower margins of pond-shores. Distribution: Se. NC south to c. peninsular FL, and Panhandle FL, west to se. AL; Cuba.
ID notes: Plants of R. pleiantha are tufted and connected via surficial stolons and tend to form patches. The leaves are short, with erect stems prominent but less than 3 dm tall. No other beaksedge species lives on pond bottoms and forms patches.
