Sabatia calycina (Lamarck) A. Heller. Common name: Coastal Rose-pink. Phenology: Jun-Oct; Jul-Oct. Habitat: Swamp forests, river banks. Distribution: Se. VA south to s. FL, west to se. TX; e. Cuba and Hispaniola.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Stems: Stems vaguely 4-angled and simple or with alternate, divergent branches; the stem base may be woody, and leafy basal offshoots may be present.

Leaves: Leaves opposite, sessile to short-petiolate, elliptic, 1-2 in. long, sometimes with a short spine at the tip.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers solitary or in few-flowered clusters borne in upper leaf axils; pale-pink to whitish; consisting of 5-7 spreading oblong-oval petals with yellowish-green tint at the base, the same number of longer lance-shaped sepals showing between petals, a split yellow stigma and 5-7 stamens.

Fruits: Fruit a rounded capsule.
