Symphyotrichum expansum (Poeppig ex Sprengel) Nesom. Phenology: Jul-Nov (-Jan). Habitat: Pond margin, disturbed wet areas. Distribution: FL Panhandle and peninsula, AL, OK, UT, NV, and CA south through Mexico and Central America to n. South America; West Indies.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: Dahal, Siniscalchi, & Folk (2023) separated a new species, S. mexicanum, endemic to Mexico, from the concept of S. expansum.
