Symphyotrichum sericeum (Ventenat) Nesom. Common name: Western Silvery Aster. Phenology: Aug-Dec. Habitat: Glades, upland prairies, thin soils over calcareous outcrops. Distribution: See Jones, Witsell, & Nesom (2008); all reports of this species east of the Mississippi River and south of the Ohio River are based on misidentifications (or a taxonomically broader application) of S. pratense.
