*Trifolium dubium Sibthorp. Subgenus: Chronosemium. Common name: Low Hop Clover, Little Hop Clover. Phenology: Feb-Oct. Habitat: Roadsides, lawns, disturbed areas. Distribution: Native of Europe.

ID notes: "Trifolium dubium is often confused with Medicago lupulina; the latter may be distinguished by its toothed stipules, deciduous corollas, and shiny, black fruits" (Vincent & Gillett 2023).

Origin/Endemic status: Europe

Stems: Stems simple to much-branched and hairy to smooth.

Leaves: Leaves alternate, on petioles with a pair of stipules, pinnately divided into 3 oblong-oval leaflets, each nearly ½ in. long, notched at the tip, on short to no stalklets, finely toothed and mostly smooth.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers in short-cylindrical heads no more than â…“ in. wide and borne on stalks from leaf axils; each flower is yellow, bilaterally symmetric, with typical pea-flower shape, the "banner" petal with a lengthwise fold.

Fruits: Fruit a 1-seeded pod.
