Triphora gentianoides (Swartz) Ames & Schlechter. Common name: Gentian Nodding-caps. Phenology: Late Jun-early Aug. Habitat: Tropical hammocks, pine rocklands, mulch in suburban areas. Distribution: S. FL (on the west coast from Pinellas County south to Collier County, and on the east coast from St. Lucie County south to Miami-Dade County); West Indies; Central America and n. South America.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Other Comments: There is question about the nativity of this species, especially northwards in the FL peninsula, where it occurs primarily in suburban areas in mulch.

Synonymy : = FNA26, K4, NS, POWO, WH3, WI, Brown & Pike (2006); > Triphora cubensis (Rchb.f.) Ames — S; Limodorum gentianoides Swartz. Basionym: Limodorum gentianoides Sw. 1788
