Habitat: Glades, prairies, woodlands, forests, rock outcrops, and roadsides, over limestone or mafic rocks. Distribution: NH west to MN and NE, south to Panhandle FL (Jackson County) and TX.

Intro: Erect to ascending perennial of glades, rocky woodlands, forests, rock outcrops and roadsides, mostly over mafic or igneous rocks.

Stems: Stems 4-angled, with a few ascending branches, smooth or slightly rough-hairy.

Leaves: Leaves opposite, mostly sessile, linear to narrowly oblong-lance-shaped, 1 1/4-4 in. long, usually coarsely toothed (more teeth toward leaf tip) and smooth or short-hairy.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers in a single terminal raceme about 4-12 in. long, a few flowers blooming at a time, beginning at the bottom; each flower lavender to whitish, to ¼ in. wide, with a corolla tube (slightly longer than the calyx) that opens to 5 unequal, spreading-ascending lobes.
