not marked as a favorite taxon Zizania aquatica Linnaeus var. aquatica. Common name: Southern Wild-rice. Phenology: May-Oct (-Apr, southwards). Habitat: Freshwater marshes, usually tidal. Distribution: Var. aquatica ranges from ME west to WI, south to c. peninsular FL and LA.
