Abildgaardia ovata (Burman f.) Kral. Common name: Flatspike-rush. Phenology: Jan-Dec. Habitat: Pine rocklands, hammocks, pine savannas, over oolite or other limestone. Distribution: FL peninsula; West Indies; Mexico (CAM, CHP, OAX, ROO, TAB, TAM, VER, YUC), Central America, and South America; Africa; Eurasia; Oceania.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Abildgaardia ovata is in the process of being divided into actual species; our New World material is very unlikely to retain the name A. ovata, which is based on material from India.

Synonymy : = Bah, FNA23, GW1, K4, Meso6, Mex, NS, POWO, WH3, WI, Kral (1971); Carex ovata Burm.f. = Abildgaardia monostachya (L.) Vahl — S, S13. Basionym: Carex ovata Burm.f. 1768
