Asclepias michauxii Decaisne. Common name: Michaux's Milkweed. Phenology: (Mar-) Apr-Jun (-Sep); May-Aug. Habitat: Pine savannas. Distribution: Se. NC south to peninsular FL, west to e. LA. The 1961 collection documenting this species for NC was variously misdetermined until recently as A. cinerea or A. longifolia.

Horticultural Information
Intro: Erect to reclining perennial of seeps in wet pine savannas and flatwoods and in drier, sandy uplands.
Stems: Stems unbranched, purplish, with vertical lines of hairs; leaks milky sap when bruised.
Leaves: Leaves mostly opposite, sessile, linear, 2-4 1/2 in. long, smooth or sometimes with hairy veins beneath.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flowers in rounded terminal umbels, greenish-white tinged with pink, about 3/8 in. long, consisting of 5 strongly reflexed corolla lobes and a central crown--composed of 5 2-parted appendages ("hood" and "horn," the horns long and pointy)--surrounding a complex structure of fused anthers and style.
Fruits: Fruit a slender follicle containing tufted seeds.
