Chrysobalanus icaco Linnaeus. Common name: Coco-plum. Phenology: Jan-Dec. Habitat: Coastal hammocks, coastal strands, sloughs, various wetlands. Distribution: S. and c. peninsular FL; West Indies; Mexico, Central America, and n. South America. Plants of w. Africa related to C. icaco have been treated as synonymous, or as an entity "atacorensis" separable at varietal, subspecific, or specific rank; they are provisionally treated here as excluded from C. icaco of the Neotropics.

Taxonomy Comments: Plants with smaller, purple fruits are sometimes given taxonomic status as Chrysobalanus pellocarpus or Chrysobalanus icaco var. pellocarpus.
