ID notes:The leaves frequently turn bright yellow, caused by a viral infection.

Intro:Prostrate annual/perennial of ditches, wet fields and other moist to wet habitats.
Stems:Stems 4-sided, sprawling, branching from root crown, hairy at least on angles.
Leaves:Leaves opposite, sessile with linear stipules at the base, lance-shaped to narrowly oval, to 2 1/2 in. long, entire.
Inforescence:
Flowers:Flowers solitary in leaf axils, white (occasionally pink), about 1/4 in. long, funnel-shaped, with 4 spreading, pointed corolla lobes that are densely hairy inside.
Fruits:Fruit a green, 8-ribbed, ellipsoid drupe with persistent calyx lobes.
