Epidendrum rigidum Jacquin. Common name: Stiff-flowered Star Orchid, Rigid Epidendrum. Phenology: Oct-May (-Sep). Habitat: Epiphytic on trees in dome swamps, strand swamps, sloughs, and rockland hammocks. Distribution: S. FL; West Indies; Bermuda; Central and South America. This species is similarly as common as E. amphistomum in sloughs and swamps of s. FL but slightly less widespread.
ID notes: Epidendrum rigidum is distinct in having green-colored flowers arranged along a conspicuous, distichous inflorescence. A persistent (marcescent) perianth can often be seen on ovoid capsules.
