Heteropogon melanocarpus (Elliott) Bentham. Sweet Tanglehead, Buzzard Grass. Phen: Sep-Oct. Hab: Sandy roadsides, disturbed areas; possibly naturalized from the Old World. Dist: The species is widespread in the Old World and New World tropics, north in North America to se. NC. Named by Elliott in the early 1800s from material between the Altamaha and Satilla rivers in e. GA, but quite possibly already naturalized at that time from the Old World.

Origin/Endemic status: Pantropics
