Ipomoea pandurata (Linnaeus) G.F.W. Meyer. Common name: Wild Sweet Potato, Manroot, Man-of-the-earth, Bigroot Morning-glory. Phenology: May-Sep; Jul-Oct. Habitat: Longleaf pine sandhills, dry forests and woodlands, prairies, roadbanks, disturbed areas. Distribution: CT, NY, and s. ON west to OH, s. MI, and KS, south to c. peninsular FL and e. TX.

Intro: Herbaceous perennial vine from a large tuber-like root, growing in sandhills, other dryish forests and woodlands, rocky-gravelly river bars and shores, and road banks and other disturbed areas.

Stems: Stems trailing or slightly twining, smooth to slightly hairy.

Leaves: Leaves alternate, on often reddish-purple petioles, broadly oval or violin-shaped or heart-shaped with a notch at the base, to 6 in. long, smooth or hairy.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers in long-stalked terminal clusters of 1-7, white with a purple-maroon throat, 2-3 in. wide and tubular-funnel-shaped with 5 shallow lobes at the rim.

Fruits: Fruit an oval capsule.
