*Manihot esculenta Crantz. Common name: Manioc, Tapioca. Phenology: Jan-Dec. Habitat: Disturbed areas. Distribution: Native of tropical America.

Origin/Endemic status: Neotropics

Other Comments: The root starch of this species, rich in carbohydrates, is a staple of some tropical diets; elsewhere it is used as the primary component of tapioca pudding.
