Pisonia aculeata Linnaeus. Common name: Devil’s-claw, Pull-and-hold-back, Old-hook, Cockspur, Garabato Prieto. Phenology: Feb-Jun. Habitat: Hammocks, subtropical thickets. Distribution: S. and c. peninsular FL; West Indies, s. LA, s. TX, and s. AZ south through Mexico, Central America, and tropical South America.
