Distribution: Nearly throughout North America, south to c. peninsular FL, and in Mexico (BCN, CHH, COA, SON, TAM) and South America; introduced in Europe.

Fruits: Fruit an oval capsule encased in the dry, inflated calyx tube.
Comments: Flowers open in sunshine and close near evening.
