Spermolepis divaricata (Walter) Rafinesque ex Seringe. Southern Spermolepis, Roughfruit Spermolepis. Phen: Apr-May; May-Jun. Hab: Sandy roadsides, disturbed areas. Dist: VA south to s. FL, west to e. TX and COA. Endemic to our region, though weedy in behavior, and perhaps introduced only in VA.

Stems: Stems slender, angular in cross-section,finely branching, smooth.

Leaves: Leaves alternate or opposite, finely divided into linear segments, smooth.

Flowers: Flowers in sparse, compound umbels at ends of branches, white, tiny

Fruits: Fruit a joined pair of oval, bumpy seeds with one flattened side (pentagonal in cross-section), less than 1/8 in. long.
