not marked as a favorite taxon Urtica chamaedryoides Pursh. Common name: Dwarf Stinging Nettle, Heartleaf Nettle, Ortiguilla. Phenology: Sep-May; Nov-Jul. Habitat: Rich moist soil, usually on floodplains. Distribution: WV, KY, se. MO and OK south to FL, TX, and s. Mexico; disjunct in South America (Argentina and Bolivia). This species is very rare east of the Blue Ridge; notable disjunct eastern locations include Stevens Creek (McCormick County, SC), Congaree Swamp (Richland County, SC), and various sites on very rich levees of the Roanoke River (NC).
