Juncus acuminatus Michaux. Subgenus: Juncus. Section: Ozophyllum. Common name: Sharp-fruited Rush. Phenology: May-Aug. Habitat: In a range of natural and disturbed, saturated and seasonally flooded wetlands. Distribution: ME and NS to ON and MN, south to n. peninsular FL, TX, and n. Mexico; S. Mexico and Honduras; BC to CA.

ID notes: Capsules intermediate in size between the larger J. debilis, and the smaller and J. elliottii. Capsules light-tan in J. debilis and deep chestnut to nearly black in J. elliottii.

Taxonomy Comments: Applequist (2024) reported the recommendation of the Nomenclatural Committee for Vascular Plants to conserve Juncus acuminatus Michaux 1803 over Juncus acuminatus Balbis 1801-1802.
