Juncus balticus Willdenow var. littoralis Engelmann. Subgenus: Agathryon. Section: Juncotypus. Baltic Rush. Phen: May-Oct. Hab: Open calcareous wetlands (fens), prairies. Dist: The species is circumboreal; var. littoralis is North American: NL (Labrador) west to BC, south to NY (Long Island), NJ, PA, w. VA, OH, IN, MO, and KS.

ID notes:Of our members of section Genuini (species with a lateral inflorescence), can be distinguished by its acute capsules, stout creeping rhizome, dark perianth, and upwardly sweeping inflorescence branches.
