Juncus brachycephalus (Engelmann) Buchenau. Subgenus: Juncus. Section: Ozophyllum. Small-headed Rush. Phen: Jun-Sep. Hab: Calcareous fens and seeps. Dist: NS west to ND, south to MA, OH, and IL; disjunct southward in VA, n. GA, TN, and CO (Falsely reported for AL).

ID notes:Of section Ozophyllum (containing septate leaves), this species is conspicuous in having obtuse to acute outer tepals. Found only in calcareous wetlands.
