CYPERACEAE

Cyperus tetragonus Elliott. Four-angled Flatsedge. Phen: Jul-Sep. Hab: Maritime forests and dunes, edges of brackish marshes. Dist: E. NC south to s. FL and FL Panhandle. Reports of the species in s. AL (Woods, Diamond, & Burkhalter 2016) are based on specimens of C. thyrsiflorus.

ID notes: This species is easy to recognize in the field by its narrowly and very loosely cylindric spikes with relatively short, ellipsoid spikelets.
