Eleocharis elongata Chapman. Phen: Jul-Aug. Hab: Quiet waters of limesink (doline) ponds, Everglades sawgrass sloughs. Dist: Se. NC south to FL, west to s. AL, s. MS, and TX (Sorrie & Leonard 1999); Jamaica; Mexico, Central America, South America.
ID notes:Submersed plants of E. elongata can often produce flaccid, filiform culms with internally incomplete transverse septae and sometimes whorls of slender branches. At this stage it is virtually indistinguishable from E. robbinsii, which it sometimes grows with, although E. elongata tends to have fresh stems with rounder culms.
