Taxonomy Comments: The relative distribution, abundance, and habitats in our area of this species and B. commutatus are poorly understood. Alleged additional characters are as follows (from Stace 2010): lemmas 7-9 mm long (vs. 7.5-11 mm long in B. commutatus), anthers 1.5-3.5 mm long (vs. 1.3-2.5 mm long), spikelets 10-18 mm long (vs. 15-30 mm long), all panicle branches <4 cm long (vs. some panicle branches > 4 cm long).
