Cenchrus brownii Roemer & J.A. Schultes. Slim-bristled Sandspur. Phen: Mar-Dec. Hab: Disturbed areas, maritime grasslands. Dist: S. FL (where apparently native), elsewhere in the se. United States (NC, GA, AL, where presumably introduced); West Indies; Central America, n. South America. The sole known NC specimen was collected in 1885 by Gerald McCarthy in NC "in locis navalibus et vastis".

Origin/Endemic status: Neotropics

Synonymy: = Bah, FlGr, FNA25, K1, K3, K4, SFla, WH3, Ward (2010b); = n/a – RAB; ? Cenchrus viridis Spreng. – HC, S, misapplied
