Hab: Dry to mesic, usually acid forests and openings, especially common in disturbed sites, such as successional pine forests. Dist: NL (Newfoundland) west to MN, south to SC, GA, AL, MS, and AR.

Taxonomy Comments: Hickey & Beitel (1979) and Holub (1975a, 1975b) explain the nomenclatural reasons for accepting the epithet ‘digitatum’ over ‘flabelliforme’.
